MIRROR
POND
Many years ago, while my wife and I were still
living in Kentucky, we decided to move somewhere
that we would be willing to vacation. For us
this had grown to mean backpacking trips in
mountainious regions of the United States. I
grew up in an old Victorian home, built in 1890
which was located near downtown Lexington, Kentucky.
Because of this I developed an appreciation
for older urban areas at an early age. Despite
this, I usually preferred vacations that offer
a taste of natural beauty. We were looking for
a place that embodied both of these characteristics.
A friend who was living in Oregon, raved about
the city of Bend. I did a web-search and found
the city of Bend's official web-site. The front
page of this site display a photograph of a
beautifuly tree lined river side park in an
urban area with a back drop of glaciated volcanoes.
I was smitten. Bend was immediately my heart.
We now live near Mirror Pond in downtown Bend
and often enjoy the amenities of urban living.
I returned to Drake Park a dozen of times for
sunsets and this one is my favorite to date.
This image comes the closet to capturing the
essence of what Bend means to me. |
