Tide Pool
In celebration of my mother's birthday, my wife, daughter, sister, and her boyfriend and I took my Mother to the town of Bandon, Oregon. My mother has always been a beach lover and up until this point, she'd never seen Bandon beach and its amazing sea stacks. I've always been intrigued with the density and diversity of life found in the Oregon coast's tidal zones. With the help of Brad, my sister's boyfriend, I found and captured this image as the last rays of sun were lighting this wall of starfish and anemones. The tide was rising at the time and waves were rhythmically lapping over this scene every 8 seconds. This made for several rushed attempts at composition and one harried exposure after which I quickly lifted my camera and tripod into the air to prevent it from being swamped by the next wave. Luckily, one exposure was all it took to capture this beautiful scene.

While hiking with my wife, Debbie and daughter, Emma in the fall of 2005, I spotted this wonderfully colored Vine Maple specimen near Mckenzie Pass, west of the Cascade crest. I returned three times during the next week and finally found ideal lighting on an overcast day after a gentle rain. These conditions allowed for the wonderfully saturated colors you see in this hard earned image of an Oregon Vine Maple in its autumnal glory.
