Maple Leaves
I captured this simple but attractive scene while visiting friends who live in the Columbia River Gorge. I had hiked through the Oneonta Gorge, a wonderful mossy green slot canyon with the very photogenic Oneonta Falls at its terminus. While composing a shot of the falls, I looked down in the stream next to me and was struck by the stark contrast between the bright yellow of these two Big Leaf Maple leaves and the dark stream bottom. Despite this shot being somewhat of an after thought, it was my favorite of the day. I like the subtle and colorful pattern of decay in the leaves. If you ever hike this Gorge, prepare for wading as the stream spans the width of the gorge in several locations. The reward, however, is well worth the effort.
