Broken Top
This image is a case of plans changing mid adventure. A friend, “Old Mike” and I set out in late August for an overnight backpacking trip high into one of Broken Top’s craters. My intention was to photograph Broken Top’s stark rocky walls at first light in order to add an extreme alpine image to my portfolio. Instead I was enchanted by this wildflower meadow in full bloom at over 8,000 feet of elevation at the end of August. I did get my sunrise shot, but I was more smitten with this unexpectedly lush meadow backed by Broken Top’s colorful striations with an unnamed moraine lake in the mid ground. I hope you enjoy my pleasant surprise!
