Tumalo
Falls
I scouted this scene in the winter of 2004,
hoping to find an icy, wintery landscape and
an ice laden Tumalo Falls. Instead, I found
a relatively barren scene that was relatively
unattractive from a photographic perspective.
Knowing that I'd skied several miles with a
30 pound backpack, I felt obligated to further
inspect the scene. Being an amateur botanist,
I found what appeared to be a large covering
of dormant penstemmon within view of 97 foot
high Tumalo Falls, one of the many classic bend
area landmarks. I skied away with the image
of a beautiful spring day on which the tubular
form of purple penstemmon glowed in a soft evening
light lessening my load. After several spring
visits to this same site, I finally captured
on film the scene I'd envisioned the previous
winter. |
