Sparks
Lake Splendor
This was one of the favorite shooting locations
of Oregon’s first photographer laureate,
Ray Atkeson. As a veterinarian with a special
interest in horses I spend a great deal of time
driving from farm to farm, thereby allowing
me to longingly stare at the Cascade Mountains
to the west. I often anticipate which cloud
formations will lend themselves to a colorful
sunset. If the conditions look promising I frequently
finish the day at a favorite location such as
Sparks Lake, where this scene was composed.
This specific image was captured on my 12th
evening trip to Sparks Lake. I was overwhelmed
by the abundance of color and the clarity of
South Sister’s reflection. Part of what
makes this image most memorable is that my wife
and daughter were by my side to enjoy this glorious
scene. |
